The coming revolution in superconducting electric drives
Thursday, 23rd October 2003
The Subject The meeting discussed the fundamental
and practical issues designing commercially successful electric motors.
A strong emphasis on the role of appropriate and cost-effective
cryogenics emerged from the meeting. A general consensus was that the
energy-saving aspects of electric drives would be unlikely to be
sufficient to generate demand, but that the small size and weight could
be vital to specific applications, especially for transport.
